Homo Habilis - OIKA

I did this Homo Habilis back in 2018 for Oika, an episodic interactive experience for VR devices.

I learned a lot while working on this piece, it was an "intro to forensic reconstruction" kind of thing 🤓. 2 years later and I'm still really proud of the results. I sculpted the whole body from scratch using a buch of fossil/bone references, textured it in substance painter, used maps from TexturingXYZ. Hand placing the fur cards was kind of enjoyable, the fur texture atlas was created using Xgen. Created some highly customizable shaders, by default the fur inherits the base color shader form the skin, but the client could create any kind of color combination or use custom patterns to achieve any specific look (included a video overview with some examples in here, just make sure to keep scrolling 😄).
